He received a savings bond for his efforts in rescuing sailors from the Henry Steinbrenner feighter that sank in Lake Superior on May 11, 1953. Dad was a merchant marine aboard the ore carrier Sykes. I have an original copy of this photograph stamped "credit Chicago Tribune" on the back.
